Food for the Hungry - Mount Vernon

Food for the Hungry's 2022 drive season is officially over and the numbers are in.

Amid fears that a sluggish economy marked by high inflation might dampen the community’s charitable spirit, Food For The Hungry steamed ahead this year, with total donations reaching $321,698 and 20 truckloads of food.

Knox County High Schools launched their Food For The Hungry collections on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Participating schools include Centerburg, East Knox, Danville, Mount Vernon, Fredericktown, and Knox County Career Center.

This year marks the 34th year of The Knox Public Library campaigning for Food For The Hungry. While The Knox Public Library is no longer charging fines, they are continuing to collect food and funds in support of the annual Food For The Hungry Drive from Nov. 7 through Dec. 3.

By the closing weeks of last year’s Food For The Hungry campaign, organizers had collected $257,538 and 26 truckloads of non-perishable food items.

The annual Food For The Hungry Drive officially kicks off in November as a community-wide effort to raise food and funds for Interchurch Social Services, The Salvation Army, and other ministries and organizations throughout the county that support food initiatives.

MOUNT VERNON – This year, Food For The Hungry has established a financial goal of $250,000 and hopes to collect as many non-perishable food items as the community can donate.

Food For The Hungry opened a special summer grant aimed to help local organizations that fill the food gap for children and teens during summer vacation throughout Knox County.

The Food For The Hungry board has announced a summer grant opportunity directed to reach churches, agencies, and organizations that provide summer food distribution programs to fill the gap for families with children home from school.

The Mount Vernon Brewing Company will be holding a drive to benefit Food For The Hungry of Knox County during the month of April.

Although the dollar amount raised in this year’s Food For The Hungry (FFTH) campaign might have fallen short of last year’s benchmark, the number of truckloads of food contributed in 2021 nearly doubled over last year.

Knox Area Transportation will have donation boxes in support of Food For The Hungry on their buses from now until Dec. 10.

A folk music concert to raise money for Mount Vernon’s Food For The Hungry campaign will be held Monday, Dec. 6, in the Knox Memorial Theater at 7:30 p.m.

The Village of Fredericktown is gearing up for the holiday season with a pair of Christmas events for residents to enjoy.

The 11th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk will take place on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The 40th annual Food For The Hungry Drive officially kicks off Friday, Nov. 5, throughout Knox County as a communitywide effort to raise food and funds for Interchurch Social Services, The Salvation Army, and other ministries and organizations throughout the county that support food initiatives.

MOUNT VERNON—The 2020 Food For The Hungry campaign was widely successful reaching a total of 423,021.21 and 15.3 truckloads of food.
