Food for the Hungry, a nonprofit organization in Mount Vernon, Ohio, has awarded $53,500 in Winter Grants to 22 organizations in Knox County. The grants are part of the annual Food For The Hungry Drive, which began on November 7 and aims to raise $340,000 along with non-perishable food items for local food assistance initiatives.

The drive supports Interchurch Social Services, The Salvation Army, and other local entities. It includes various events leading up to a simulcast on December 12 from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., available online and via radio.

This year marks the 44th year of the drive. Despite receiving more applications than budgeted funds for Winter Grants, the FFTH Grants Committee decided to use reserve funds from previous successful campaigns. "After careful review of the applications by the FFTH Grant Committee," said a spokesperson, "FFTH is honored to award a total of $53,500 in grant funds to 22 different organizations!"

Grant recipients include ACTS Food Pantry ($3,000), Afterglow Christian Mission House ($1,000), Alcohol & Drug Freedom Center Knox County ($1,500), and others. These organizations will use their grants for various food initiatives such as pantries and weekend meal assistance for students.

Each recipient will be recognized during the FFTH Live Broadcast on December 12 at Memorial Theater inside Knox Memorial. The broadcast will be available on several radio stations and online platforms like www.mvnu.tv and YouTube.
