Food For The Hungry announced that it is opening a Summer grant opportunity aimed at supporting churches, agencies, and organizations that provide summer food distribution programs for families with children home from school.
The organization reported that funds raised during the 2025 Food For The Hungry Drive Season totaled $394,301.89. A portion of these funds has been designated by the board for Summer grants. Local organizations, board members, and Executive Director Kathy Brechler met to discuss the grant process and share ideas about reducing hunger in Knox County.

"There was a collaborative and productive discussion amongst the organizations as they shared ideas of how they could contribute to each other’s efforts to help those in need in our county," Food For The Hungry said.
The application period for the Summer Grant will be open from Wednesday, April 1 through Thursday, April 30 at noon. Awards are expected to be announced in late May or early June. Applications can be submitted online at FoodForTheHungryCares.org.
Organizations may apply for grants supporting food assistance and distribution through September 30, 2026. Priority will be given to programs assisting youth who rely on school meals during the academic year, but groups providing assistance outside traditional Mid-Ohio Food Collective income guidelines are also encouraged to apply. All other food initiative organizations are welcome to submit an application as well.
More information about the grant process is available by emailing Executive Director Kathy Brechler at [email protected]. Additional details about past drives and ongoing donation opportunities can be found on the official roster page.
