Chautauqua welcomes Roseanna McCoy of Hatfields, McCoys feud

On Thursday March 24, the Chautauqua Series is happy to welcome Julia Geiger as Roseanna McCoy, one of the central people involved in the Hatfield & McCoys feud. The program will be at the Grand Hotel, 12 Public Square in downtown Mount Vernon, at 7 p.m. The Chautauqua Series is brought to you with the help of a grant provided by the Ariel Foundation. The cost is a donation with all monies collected going to the performers.

Taking the sting out of its opening-season loss to Triway, the previous day, Mount Vernon connected eight hits and played errorless ball in topping the Panthers.

The Mount Vernon News sports department’s 26th ATHLETE OF THE WEEK nominations continues the established procedure of spotlighting student-athletes’ skills and performances on the fields, courts and mats of action. This week, a Utica wrestler took on tough foes in the winner-take-all state championships and made it all the way to the finals, to bring home a silver medal.

Passing for 84,520 yards and 624 touchdowns (No.1 all-time in both categories), and at age 44, passed for 5316 yards and 43 TDs, taking his team to the NFC finals. On Feb .1, Brady announced his retirement from NFL football, saying he is “not going to make that competitive commitment anymore.”

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference has named its top bowlers for 2021-2022. For the boys, Bowler of the year was Silas Horton of Cardington-Lincoln – 213.8 average, and Coach of the Year honors went to Chip Pozderac of East Knox and Joe Borders of Crestline. Winning Tournament team honors went to Will Jensen of East Knox.
