Trojans set school win mark with 6-3 victory over Johnnies. The 2022 Centerburg Trojans broke the school record for wins in a season with win No. 20, thanks to a 6-3 win over Johnstown-Monroe, May 21, and they move on to the District semifinals against Amanda Clearcreek.

Shilling blasts 2, Lady Blue Devils shoot down Eagles 10-0 in semis. The Danville Lady Blue Devils took a 5-0 lead in the Division-4 District Semifinals, Monday, May 16, and coasted to a 10-0 victory over the Delaware Christian Eagles behind two homeruns by Keaura Shilling and a one-hit shutout by Grace Gronberg. Gronberg, who threw a perfect game against Tree of Life on May 11, allowed one hit, walked four and struck out 10 to gain the win.

East Knox Bulldogs blast Harvest Prep Warriors, 20-0. Rolling on a five-run first and a 15-run explosion in the second inning, East Knox started the OHSSA Division-4 tournament by blasting the Harvest Prep Warriors 20-0, May 18. Bryar Householder and Peyton Lester combined to no-hit the Warriors in the mercy-shortened three-inning game. Householder struck out five and walked one in two innings and Lester pitched a perfect third, striking out a pair.

Cotsamire, Smith no-hit Harvest Prep in EK’s 15-0 win. East Knox scored 15 runs in the first two innings and Maddy Cotsamire and Natalie Smith combined to no-hit Harvest Prep in a 15-0 demolition of the Lady Warriors, May 11. Gronberg throws perfect game, Danville crushes Tree of Life, 19-0. Grace Gronberg twriled a perfecct game against Tree of Life, in a 19-0 demolition by the Danville Lady Blue Devils.

A LeMasterpiece: Centerburg ace no-hits Elgin, 7-0. Daniel LeMaster walked the first batter he faced and then spun a gem, no-hitting Elgin in a 7-0 route by Centerburg, May 10. Centerburg started the game with four runs in the top of the first, and that was more than enough for LeMaster. He needed only 88 pitches, walking three and striking out five in seven innings

Pirates douse the Flames in 15-5 onslaught. The Cardington-Lincoln Pirates came with bats blazing on May 7 to scote three runs in the first and roll to a 15-5 victory over the Mansfield Christian Flames. The Pirates went up 8-0 after scoring five more runs in the third inning, but the Flames got on the board with a two run bottom half of the inning to make it an 8-2 game. The Pirates went to work in the top of the fourth with six runs to go up 14-2 but the Flames added a pair of runs of their own to make it a 14-4 game. Both teams scored in the fifth inning, which was the the final inning of the gam ass the mecry rule kicked in.

The Mount Gilead Invitational Track meet took place on May 7 with 17 schools including seven local teams battling it out. Standout athletes included Alex Hayden of Centerburg and Michaela McGill of Mount Gilead who each had lopsided victories in the 3200 meters.

Cardington-Lincoln scores 20 twice against Mount Gilead. The Cardington-Lincoln Lady Pirates ran their season record to 19-1 and 12-0 in KMAC play with a 21-4 demolition of Mount Gilead (4-11, 0-10), May 4. It was the second time in three days that C-L put up 20 runs against Mount Gilead, having won 20-0 on May 2, when Genevieve Longsdorf pitched a five-inning perfect game.

Trojans come back to hand Freddies first KMAC loss, 6-4 In a battle of the top two teams in Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference baseball play, Centerburg handed previously undefeated (in conference) Fredericktown its first KMAC loss with a 6-4 decision, May 4. Finnell throws one-hitter, Jackets beat Minutemen, 4-0. Cash Finnell was lights out on the mound and the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets topped the Lexington Minutemen 4-0, May 4.

We all have our favorite sportscasters and those we can’t stand, and we can debate our liked and disliked sports broadcasters, but let’s focus on mistakes … big ones … the funny ones and horrendous ones. Botched calls are in the news thanks to the “hate-him-or-love-him” John Sterling, the radio voice of the New York Yankees. In the May 2 game between the Yankees and Blue Jays, the man was either not paying attention or mis-saw what he saw.

Freddies walk-off 6-5 win over PiratesA three-run ninth that ended with a walk-off game-winning single by Braden Sapp on a 2-2 pitch, seized victory from defeat April 28, in a 6-5 Fredericktown victory over Cardington-Lincoln.Cardington got all their runs in a five-run fourth that turned a 3-0 deficit into a 5-3 lead, an advantage they held into the final inning.Teegan Ruhl led off the seventh with a single, and Daichi Yamazaki followed with another base hit.

Mount Gilead scores 48 runs to sweep Tygers. Many teams don’t score 48 runs in a month. The Mount Gilead softball team did it in a single day, a doubleheader sweep over the Mansfield Tygers. The Indians had put only eight runs across the plate in their last four games. Sitting at 2-9 in the season, 2022 turned around with an epic onslaught, April 30, when the Indians destroyed Mansfield 15-4 and 32-6 … yes, 32 runs in a single game. They had an inning for the ages in game two, when they came knocking for 29 runs in the second inning.
