Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg is now offering mobile health services once each month at Hometown Market in Danville.

The mobile clinic will be in Danville the first Wednesday of every month, hospital communications coordinator Alison Sprang told the Mount Vernon News.

The next visit will be April 6 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Sprang said.

"We have a big mobile unit. You can't miss it," she said. "It says 'Pomerene Health Services' on it."

A nurse is stationed in the mobile unit. No appointment is required.

"You just go in and get whatever test you want," she said. "Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol. thyroid, liver."

The mobile clinic does not offer COVID-19 testing, but it tests for COVID-19 antibodies.

Some tests, such as a complete blood count, require a physician's order, said Sprang.

Depending on the test results, the hospital will issue physician referrals if necessary to people who don't have a regular physician.

The mobile unit can make health care more convenient by bringing it directly to rural communities, Sprang said.

"We are traveling to you instead of you traveling to us," she said.

Blood pressure checks are free, but there may be nominal charges for other tests depending on insurance, said Sprang. For example, a blood sugar test could be $5, a cholesterol test $20. The most expensive test is $55 for a COVID-19 antibody test.

Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

"Our mission is caring for your community's health," Sprang said. "Our mission is to make sure everyone is being care for, even if they can't get to a hospital. We go to them."

Pomerene Hospital is a private, nonprofit community hospital with more than 325 employees, including 80 physicians.

The hospital opened in 1937.
