A fatal crash occurred in Knox County on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.
The accident took place at 3:10 PM on Johnstown Road in Milford Township. Thomas Stewart, an 85-year-old resident of Mount Vernon, Ohio, was driving a 2024 Hyundai Tucson northeast on Johnstown Road when he crossed the center line. His vehicle veered off the left side of the road and collided with a tree.
Mr. Stewart was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Vernon Police Department, and Mount Vernon Fire Department.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
