The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference has named its top bowlers for 2021-2022. For the boys, Bowler of the year was Silas Horton of Cardington-Lincoln – 213.8 average, and Coach of the Year honors went to Chip Pozderac of East Knox and Joe Borders of Crestline. Winning Tournament team honors went to Will Jensen of East Knox.

The Mount Vernon News sports department’s 25th ATHLETE OF THE WEEK nominations continues the established procedure of spotlighting student-athletes’ skills and performances on the fields and courts of action. A student-athlete who frequents this award put together back-to-back performances in the OHSAA basketball play-offs and either one would have qualified him for this honor, but he did it twice in a row.

Jackets grad finishes second twice in college meets Logan Meyer, a 2018 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, finished second twice at the 2-day North Coast Atlantic Conference (NCAC) championships at Wittenburg University in Springfield on Feb. 25-26. Meyer a senior at Allegheny College (Meadville, Pa.) ran the 5000-meter race (3.11 miles) in 14:59.82 and finished second, earning him All-NCAC honors. On Saturday, he ran the 3000M with a time of 8:39.5, finishing second and again earning him All-NCAC honors.
Let's Talk Sports MLB labor issues ... the fans lose

After a 99-day lockout, MLB and the Players finally came to agreement. The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between MLB owners and the MLB Players Association expired in December, and without a new agreement or a mutual handshake to play without a new one while still negotiating, there was no baseball, as the owners instituted a lockout. Without taking sides, the obvious results are that no one wins … and the fans lose. We win, but we lose.
