For people who love to farm, Holmes Rental has the equipment needed, either for rent or sale, salesman Wayne Noggle told the Mount Vernon News.
"We rent overseeders for hay fields, small tractors," Noggle said. "We have a disc here. Most of it is small, recreational farming equipment."
Many customers rent equipment like overseeders because it is much less expensive than buying.
"It they are just putting in 5 acres of hay, they'll come rent that," Noggle said.
An overseeder might cost more than $3,000 for a piece of equipment used maybe once a year, Noggle said.
"The rental would be $135 a day," he said. "If you rent it on say a Saturday, you would have it until Monday. That's what a lot of people do, rent it on Saturday morning and get it back to us on Monday morning. You basically get two days for the price of one."
Holmes can deliver the equipment if needed, said Noggle.
Holmes sells a line of small-utility tractors starting at 21 horsepower, up to 60 horsepower.
"It's all small hobby-farming equipment," he said. "We've sold 60-horsepower tractors with cabs on them to people who pull their hay equipment with it. They go out and do everybody's hay for them.
Holmes sells all kinds of equipment for hay rakes," he said. "We have a mini round bailer that puts out a 100-pound round bail."
For many local residents, farming is in their blood and part of their family history, Noggle said.
"You might see someone who was raised on a farm, or maybe their grandparent's had a farm," he said. "As generations passed, the farm was broken up or sold. Now they want to get back into it, but they can't afford to buy 3500 acres, so they buy 30 acres and put a barn up and they have a mini-farm."
