Officials reminded residents that the City of Mount Vernon does not repair or manage electric utility lines and cannot provide estimates for power restoration. Residents are encouraged to report outages and monitor anticipated restoration times through AEP Ohio's outage map.
The city reported that crews are opening streets, providing safe passage for emergency services, assessing damage, and clearing debris. The Public Works team, Police Department, and Fire Department were recognized for their efforts in supporting the community during cleanup operations. AEP Ohio and other partners are present in the area to restore power and safely handle downed power lines.
While work is ongoing, residents are asked to respect road closures. West High Street is currently closed due to downed trees and power lines; travelers from State Routes 3, 36, and 229 should use Mulberry Street, South Main Street across the viaduct, or Columbus Road as alternate routes. New Gambier Road between Eastern Star and Teryl is also closed because of similar hazards.
