Four local basketball players made the divisions III and IV boys All-Ohio teams announced this week by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
The four local student-athletes honored included three frequent mentions and Athlete of the Week winners in the Mount Vernon News who were recognized for their outstanding performances.
Divisions I and II honorees will be announced later this week.
The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
The honorees included one second team selection, one special mention and two honorable mention student-athletes.
In Division III, aspecial mention was awarded to Mckinnon Mead of Centerburg, 6’0”, senior, averaging 17.9 points per game. Earning honorable mention were Grant Bentley of Northmor, 6’2”, sophomore, averaging 16.5 points per game, and Trenton Collins of Utica, 6’3”, junior, averaging 19.8 points per game. Mead was an MVN Athlete of the Week on Dec. 4. Bentley made the MVN honorees list twice – in December and January.
Division IV honorees included second-team recognition to Shane Knepp of East Knox, 5’11”, senior, averaging 18.2 points per game. Knepp has been a Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week nominee a record five times – three times for basketball and twice for football.
