The Knox County Foundation announced that it has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to 484 students for the 2026–2027 academic year, continuing its commitment to supporting educational opportunities throughout Knox County and beyond.
This year’s scholarship awards totaled $1,303,650 and supported students across several categories, including high school seniors, current college students, non-traditional students, and adult graduate students. Of the total recipients, 217 were high school seniors who received a combined $433,400 in scholarships. An additional 241 college students received $770,350 in support. Further awards were provided to non-traditional and adult graduate students pursuing continued education and career advancement.
Through more than 160 scholarship funds, the Knox County Foundation supports students pursuing a wide variety of educational and career paths such as associate, bachelor’s, technical, and doctoral degree programs. "Scholarships are one of the many ways we invest in the future of our community," said Kara Ernsberger, Program Coordinator at the Knox County Foundation. "These awards help remove financial barriers for students while encouraging them as they pursue their educational and career goals."
For many recipients, these scholarships provide not only financial assistance but also confidence and opportunity. "The Knox County Foundation has given me the financial stability I needed to enjoy college while pursuing my major," said Madigan Caudill. "Thanks to their generosity, I am happy to say I am on track to graduate debt free." Emily Opfer said, "The Knox County Foundation scholarship has helped support me throughout my undergraduate and graduate level educational endeavors. I am so grateful for the support my community has provided me, and I could not be more grateful to be a part of the scholarship program."
Scholarship recipients represented school districts across Knox County including Mount Vernon, Fredericktown, Centerburg, East Knox, Danville, Utica, as well as additional surrounding schools.
The foundation administers a range of scholarship funds established by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations interested in investing in education and supporting local students.
