The Licking County Board of Commissioners awarded a $4.5 million bid for the Columbus Road Bridge Rehabilitation Project to Suburban Maintenance & Construction of North Royalton, Ohio, at the board's June 18 meeting.

According to a meeting agenda for the May 21 board meeting, two companies submitted bids for the bridge rehabilitation project. Suburban Maintenance submitted the low bid, with Complete General Construction of Columbus submitting a $4.66 million bid.

Bid documents prepared by the Licking County Engineer's Office state that the project involves work on the Columbus Road Viaduct over Racoon Creek in Granville Township. The award covers rehabilitation of the existing structure by removing and replacing bridge overhang elements such as railing, sidewalk, safety curb, and light pilasters. Suburban Maintenance will also reset forward abutment bearings, extend scuppers to drain the roadway, and patch existing superstructure units, according to the Licking County Engineer's Office.

The bridge rehabilitation is part of a larger State Route 16 rehabilitation and expansion project with an overall construction cost estimated at $47.2 million and completion expected by Fall 2028. The broader effort includes major pavement rehabilitation and replacement on State Routes 16 and 37 in Licking County, maintenance on four bridges and various culverts within project limits extending from west of the SR 16 & Columbus Road interchange to Thornwood Crossing interchange. Access will be maintained for the Village of Granville throughout construction; during bridge work at least one lane will remain open in both directions, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
