The City of Mount Vernon announced that crews are working to repair a waterline break on West High Street, just outside the perimeter of Riverside Park.

According to the announcement, hazards from the break—including rushing water and heavy equipment—are confined strictly to the roadside work zone. The city said that Riverside Park, its playgrounds, and Captain Hunter’s Landing Splashpad remain open and safe for public use. There are currently no boil advisories or service interruptions expected as a result of the incident.

While park activities continue unaffected, officials emphasized that the repair site itself is hazardous. "For absolutely no reason should anyone approach the work area. Because of how close this is to the park, parents and guardians must be especially attentive to their children to ensure everyone stays well away from the construction zone," city representatives said.

The city indicated it will provide updates on its website if any further issues arise related to the waterline break.
