Kenyon to hold basketball camp
Kenyon College and Coach Dan Priest will host a basketball camp for boys and girls entering grades 2-8. The camp will be June 14-16, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Kenyon’s Lowry Center. Mount Vernon Babe Ruth League sets new-player tryouts
New -player tryouts for 2022 Babe Ruth League baseball are set for Saturday, March 26, from 9 am. - noon at Memorial Park on Mount Vernon Avenue. The Mount Vernon Babe Ruth Association, doing business as Knox Babe Ruth League of Knox County, has scheduled in-person registration for 13- to 16-year-olds.
Soric, Orth receive NCAA field honors
All-Region honorees for the 2022 NCAA Division III indoor track and field season were announced recently by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Among the women’s honorees was Kenyon College first-year Paula Soric, and among men was Kenyon’s Riley Orth.
Soric, who broke the Kenyon record in the triple jump multiple times this season, wound up ranked third among all female jumpers in the Great Lakes region. She also ranked 33rd among all female jumpers across NCAA Division III.
Soric’s best jump measured 11.46 meters (37’7.25”), which she registered both at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship and then again a week later at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear qualifier.
Orth started the season by breaking the Kenyon record in the weight throw at the Wittenberg Tiger Opener. In that meet, Orth’s best throw of 43’3.25” placed him 10th in the meet while his throw of 46’2.5” in the shot put earned him a second place finish.
Orth placed in the top five at all nine of the meets he attended this season, winning five of those. In the weight throw, he broke the school record in the shot put at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, winning the conference title with his throw of 51’5.5’.
