The Northmor boys’ basketball team picked up their fifth straight win, with the Golden Knights taking another KMAC victory over East Knox (2-13, 2-6) 61-44 on Jan. 28. Grant Bentley, Jax Wenger and Drew Hammond put up solid numbers in the game to propel the team to team to another vital win.

The Northmor boys’ basketball team (11-4, 7-1) has been on a war path since the start of the new year, winning their last four games and sitting on top of the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference. On Jan. 24 the Golden Knights struck again, beating KMAC rival Mount Gilead 72-40 with Hunter Fulk and Grant Bentley putting up 20 points in the win.

Grant Bentley has been a force for the Northmor boys’ basketball team this season, leading the team to a 10-4 overall record and 6-1 in KMAC, good for first place. He has been a consistent scorer for the Golden Knights and turns it on when most needed, and for that reason he is the Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

The Northmor wrestling team won the Robin Drumm Memorial Tournament at Heath High School over the weekend, beating out 21 other teams with Cowin Becker named Outstanding Wrestler.

The Northmor Golden Knights (10-4, 6-1) have been rolling and took another conference win on Jan. 20, bearing Centerburg (6-6, 4-3) 63-52 in a come-from-behind victory led by their top scorer Grant Bentley.

Northmor’s Grant Bentley and Jax Wenger were firing on all cylinders in a 64-46 win over Fredericktown on Jan. 13, combining for 43 points to lead the charge.

AJ Hall was the hero for Cardington-Lincoln (7-2, 4-0), making an and-one play to secure a 51-49 win over Northmor (7-4, 3-1) with less than a minute on the clock. The win gives the Pirates sole possession of first place in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference.

The Fredericktown girls’ basketball (5-5, 2-3) team took care of KMAC rival Northmor (3-9, 0-6) with ease, with Ella Bouton leading the Freddies to a 42-24 win over the the Golden Knights.

Grant Bentley led the scoring charge with 23 points to help the Northmor Golden Knights (6-3, 3-0) knock off Mansfield Christian (6-2, 3-0) 63-53 on Dec. 30.

The Northmor basketball team (4-3, 2-0) had a pair of games before the holiday break last week, beating East Knox (0-6, 0-2) before dropping a game against Clear Fork (2-3, 1-2).

Seniors Grant Bentley and Ella Proper each reached the 1,000 point milestone, and for their hard work over their careers and also this season they have been named Mount Vernon Athletes of the Week.

Grant Bentley is moving up the list of top Northmor (4-2, 2-0) scorers, as he recently hit the 1,000 point mark and is now sitting in third place after putting up 21 points in a 73-43 win over Mount Gilead (3-3, 1-1).

The Division VI and VII All-Ohio football teams were announced on Dec. 4 with a number of Mount Vernon News coverage area players selected.

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference released their All-KMAC football selections for 2023. The conference includes Cardington-Lincoln, Centerburg, East Knox, Fredericktown, Mount Gilead, Loudonville and Northmor.

The No. 4 Northmor football team (10-3, 6-1) had a terrific season, but No. 1 Garaway (13-0, 5-0) has been unstoppable and it continued on Friday night in a 42-7 rout of the Golden Knights, where they scored all their points in the first half.

Quarterback AJ Bower was a touchdown machine in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference this year. This continued in the regional quarterfinals of the OHSAA Division VI, Region 23 football tournament, throwing three touchdown passes to lead No. 4 Northmor (10-2, 6-1) to a 31-6 win over No. 12 Trimble (6-5, 2-2).

No. 4 Northmor (9-2, 6-1) had no trouble with No. 13 Dawson-Bryant (4-7, 1-6) in the opening round of the Division IV Region 23 football tournament on Friday night, with AJ Bower throwing for three touchdowns in a 44-22 win.
