Grant Bentley became the first Northmor Golden Knight boys’ basketball to win the KMAC Player of the Year Award since 2017-2018, highlighting this year’s selections for the KMAC All-Conference teams.
Northmor loses in District Finals, but finishes a highly successful year

It was a tough night shooting for the Northmor boys' basketball team, and for the second year in a row, the Golden Knights took a loss in the District Finals, falling 62-46 to Northside Christian on March 8.

Last year Patriot Prep knocked Northmor out of the postseason in the Division IV District Finals and Coach Blade Tackett said that they have had the silver medal hanging in their locker room all season as a reminder.

The Centerburg girls’ basketball team garnered plenty of praise and awards after what was a strong season for the Trojans, including Kayla Larimore winning KMAC Player of the Year and Coach Bill Abner winning KMAC and District 11 Coach of the Year honors.

Grant Bentley had a terrific regular season and he has brought that type of play into the postseason tournament, as he recently led the Northmor Golden Knights to a Sectional title with a 34 point showing. His top tier scoring and ability to control the glass has made him the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week.

Grant Bentley led the KMAC in scoring during the regular season, and that production continued in the Division IV Central 1 Sectional Championship with 34 points in a 79-41 win for No. 3 Northmor over No. 19 Madison Christian on March 2.

Jax Wenger’s return to the basketball court has been integral in the success for the Northmor Golden Knights this season. His clutch play continued on Feb. 13 in a 60-56 win over Wynford, where Wenger went off for 14 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter.
Surging Freddies knock of Northmor in marquis KMAC matchup

Fredericktown (12-5, 9-2) and Northmor (14-5, 10-2) have both been on a roll in the second half of this season, with Northmor leading the KMAC and the Freddies at number two. This time the Freddies came out on top 63-57, making it seven straight wins and putting a stop to Northmor’s seven game streak.

The Northmor boys’ basketball team picked up their fifth straight win, with the Golden Knights taking another KMAC victory over East Knox (2-13, 2-6) 61-44 on Jan. 28. Grant Bentley, Jax Wenger and Drew Hammond put up solid numbers in the game to propel the team to team to another vital win.

The Northmor boys’ basketball team (11-4, 7-1) has been on a war path since the start of the new year, winning their last four games and sitting on top of the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference. On Jan. 24 the Golden Knights struck again, beating KMAC rival Mount Gilead 72-40 with Hunter Fulk and Grant Bentley putting up 20 points in the win.

He has been a consistent scorer for the Golden Knights and turns it on when most needed, and for that reason he is the Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

AJ Hall was the hero for Cardington-Lincoln (7-2, 4-0), making an and-one play to secure a 51-49 win over Northmor (7-4, 3-1) with less than a minute on the clock. The win gives the Pirates sole possession of first place in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference.
