Loudonville won both games of a double-header on April 6, with the Redbirds fueled by top tier pitching by Natalee Buzzard and Alesha Felix.

Northmor had a perfect week on the baseball diamond, winning four games with a great display of pitching, defense and offense to make it a 6-0 start.

The Northmor Golden Knights improved to 4-0 on the young season, beating KMAC rival Mount Gilead in a pair of tightly contested battles including one that ended with a walk-off RBI single by Garrett Harvey.

The Northmor softball team kicked off their season this past week, going 2-2 led by a a solid week at the plate by Mahaila Strobel, who had two homers and seven RBIs to pace the offense.

The Northmor baseball team went 21-7 and had a district finals appearance in the Division IV playoffs last season, and this year seniors Grant Bentley and Drew Hammond lead a solid core of Golden Knights in hopes of winning a conference title and making a deep playoff run.

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference announced their All-Conference wrestling team, led by Christopher Marshall of Centerburg as Wrestler of the Year and Blake Elliott of East Knox as Wrestler of the Tournament.

Local boys’ basketball teams were well represented with this year’s All-District 11 selections, notably in Division III led by Fredericktown with two first teamers, a second team, an honorable mention and Derek Dibling as the District 11 Division III Coach of the Year.

Grant Bentley became the first Northmor Golden Knight boys’ basketball to win the KMAC Player of the Year Award since 2017-2018, highlighting this year’s selections for the KMAC All-Conference teams.

It was a tough night shooting for the Northmor boys' basketball team, and for the second year in a row, the Golden Knights took a loss in the District Finals, falling 62-46 to Northside Christian on March 8.

Last year Patriot Prep knocked Northmor out of the postseason in the Division IV District Finals and Coach Blade Tackett said that they have had the silver medal hanging in their locker room all season as a reminder.

The Centerburg girls’ basketball team garnered plenty of praise and awards after what was a strong season for the Trojans, including Kayla Larimore winning KMAC Player of the Year and Coach Bill Abner winning KMAC and District 11 Coach of the Year honors.

Grant Bentley had a terrific regular season and he has brought that type of play into the postseason tournament, as he recently led the Northmor Golden Knights to a Sectional title with a 34 point showing. His top tier scoring and ability to control the glass has made him the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week.

Grant Bentley led the KMAC in scoring during the regular season, and that production continued in the Division IV Central 1 Sectional Championship with 34 points in a 79-41 win for No. 3 Northmor over No. 19 Madison Christian on March 2.

Local boys’ wrestling teams recently competed in their sectional championships last weekend, and below are some highlights of winners and top wrestlers in their respective meets.

It was Senior Night for the Northmor boys’ basketball team, and the team got contributions from all of their seniors, led by Grant Bentley’s 24 points in a 71-44 win over Loudonville on Feb. 15.

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference wrestling tournament took place last weekend at Northmor High School, with Elgin winning the title and the Northmor Golden Knights as this year’s runner up.

Jax Wenger’s return to the basketball court has been integral in the success for the Northmor Golden Knights this season. His clutch play continued on Feb. 13 in a 60-56 win over Wynford, where Wenger went off for 14 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter.

Fredericktown (12-5, 9-2) and Northmor (14-5, 10-2) have both been on a roll in the second half of this season, with Northmor leading the KMAC and the Freddies at number two. This time the Freddies came out on top 63-57, making it seven straight wins and putting a stop to Northmor’s seven game streak.

The Northmor Golden Knights have secured the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference Crown, and have been playing their best basketball of the season with seven straight wins.

The Danville girls’ basketball team completely ran away with the game from the start against Lucas on Jan. 25, as their defense was about as good as it gets in a 62-11 victory.
