Local wrestlers take conference titles at KMAC meet

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference wrestling tournament took place last weekend at Northmor High School, with Elgin winning the title and the Northmor Golden Knights as this year’s runner up.

Local Highlights:

Northmor

Ethan Amens won the 120 pound weight class KMAC title with a 12-2 major decision over Trent Rooke of Fredericktown.

Cowin Becker also won the KMAC title in the 132 pound weight class with a pin of Hunter Johnston of Elgin at 0:36.

Carson Campbell won the 157 pound class with a 9-6 decision over Quinten Harrison.

There were also two runners up for the Golden Knights, including Carter Thomas in the 106 pound class and Brady Carr in the 113 pound class.

Loudonville

Tyler Reeder was the lone Redbird to take home a KMAC title, with a pin of Brandon Hughes from Cardington-Lincoln at 5:59 to win the 126 pound class.

Josh Serrato and Baylor Weiser were runners up in the meet, taking second in the 138 pound and 165 pound classes respectively.

Centerburg

The Trojans had three wrestlers take home KMAC titles, and one runner up in the meet. 

Cory Climer won the 106 pound weight class, and won his seventh round match by 13-4 major decision over Aiden Cervantes.

Christopher Marshall won the 138 pound weight class with a pin of Gavin Rhodes of Elgin at 0:51.

Charlie Sargent took the KMAC title in the 285 pound class, beating Cody Meimer of Mount Gilead 3-2.

Thomas Hause was a runner up in the 150 pound class. He was pinned by Kaiden Luikart at 1:11 in his final match.

Cardington-Lincoln

The Pirates had two winners in the KMAC meet. Dylan Compton is the 113 pound KMAC champion with a pin of Noah Matthews of Centerburg at 0:53. Wyatt Denney won the 165 pound weight class with a pin of Baylor Weiser at 4:37.

Carter Sherman was the runner up in the 175 pound class, losing to Nels VanGundy by a 17-2 technical fall.

Fredericktown

The Freddies had two runners up, including Trent Rooke in the 120 pound class and Devon Whitt in the 215 pound class.

Rooke made it to the final match in the seventh round, but lost 12-2 by major decision to Ethan Ames of Northmor. Whitt was pinned by Tyler Pasma of Elgin at 3:32.

Mount Gilead 

In the 285 pound class, Cody Meimer took second. He was beaten 3-2 in the final match in the seventh round by Charlie Sargent of Centerburg.

East Knox

Blake Elliott was the KMAC champion in the 190 pound class, as he pinned Rayden Caudill of Lucas at 4:17. This was the second straight conference title for the sophomore.
