The Loudonville Redbirds won all four games they played last week, with three of them coming in blowout fashion, to get to 10-9 on the season.

Alesha Felix was a unstoppable for the Loudonville softball team to start the week, homering twice and hitting for the cycle to lead the Redbirds to two lopsided wins over Crestline.

The Loudonville softball team had an 18 hit barrage against South Central on April 22, with Kate Burgess driving in five runs while being a triple away from the cycle in a 19-3 win for the Redbirds.

Loudonville senior Payton VanSickle drove in 15 runs and homered last week for the high powered Redbird offense, and her production at the plate earned her the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week Award.

The Loudonville baseball team has turned it on of late, winning their past three games including a blowout of Central Christian to start the week.

The Loudonville Redbirds have been hot to start the season, with the softball team winning three games and improving to 8-2 on the year.

Loudonville won both games of a double-header on April 6, with the Redbirds fueled by top tier pitching by Natalee Buzzard and Alesha Felix.

It was a monumental day for the Loudonville Redbirds when they took the field against the Lucas Cubs on April 3, with Natalee Buzzard pitching her first no hitter and Olyvia Fenton breaking the school record for career steals.

The Loudonville Redbirds had a plethora of accolades this year, and while many of them went to players on their way to graduation, others show that the future looks exceptionally bright for the girls’ basketball team.

The Loudonville baseball team is looking to repeat as Mid-Buckeye Conference champions this year, with seniors Matt Sprang and Baylor Weiser, and junior Judah Layton, leading the Redbirds after first team All-MBC seasons last year.

The Loudonville softball team is coming off a 16-7 season where they won the Mid-Buckeye Conference, and Coach Serena Fenton sees this group being able to repeat that success, and make a strong push into the Division III playoffs.

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference announced their All-Conference wrestling team, led by Christopher Marshall of Centerburg as Wrestler of the Year and Blake Elliott of East Knox as Wrestler of the Tournament.

It was a marquis matchup in the Division IV state semifinals between No. 7 Loudonville and No. 6 Waterford on March 14, and while the Redbirds made a late push and came within reach, the Wildcats came out on top 41-32 to head to the state finals.

Alesha Felix played what Coach Tyler Bates called the “game of her life” last week, as she helped shut down the top scorer of Springfield to give Loudonville the Regional title. Her stellar defense and ability to grab boards was integral in the win, and for that, she is the newest Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week.

Alesha Felix was a major difference maker for No. 1 Loudonville, where defense the name of the game in the Division IV Region 13 Finals on March 9 in a 40-14 win over No. 5 Springfield. The victory not only got Loudonville the regional title, but also set a school record with their 26th wins.

No. 1 Danbury showed plenty of fight against the No. 1 Loudonville girls’ basketball team in the Division IV Region 13 semifinals, but in the end Corri Vermilya was able to lead the Redbirds to a 46-40 to continue their quest toward a state title.

Local boys' basketball is winding down and here are a few of the local teams from last week who finished out their seasons.

The No. 1 Loudonville Redbirds are district champions for the third time in school history, and Coach Tyler Bates also secured his 200th victory by beating No. 9 Mogadore 61-44 on March 2.

No. 1 Loudonville continued its quest towards a state title this week with a commanding 65-17 win over No. 15 Lowellville in the District semifinals of the Division IV state tournament, and Corri Vermilya hit yet another set of milestones in her illustrious basketball career.
