The No. 1 Loudonville Redbirds are district champions for the third time in school history, and Coach Tyler Bates also secured his 200th victory by beating No. 9 Mogadore 61-44 on March 2.

No. 1 Loudonville continued its quest towards a state title this week with a commanding 65-17 win over No. 15 Lowellville in the District semifinals of the Division IV state tournament, and Corri Vermilya hit yet another set of milestones in her illustrious basketball career.

Local boys’ wrestling teams recently competed in their sectional championships last weekend, and below are some highlights of winners and top wrestlers in their respective meets.

Corri Vermilya has been dominant all season for the No. 1 Loudonville Redbirds (21-2, 4-0), and she took her game to another level in an 89-11 win over No. 37 Valley Christian (1-22, 1-13) in the first round of the Division IV Northeast 3 Sectionals.

It was Senior Night for the Northmor boys’ basketball team, and the team got contributions from all of their seniors, led by Grant Bentley’s 24 points in a 71-44 win over Loudonville on Feb. 15.

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference wrestling tournament took place last weekend at Northmor High School, with Elgin winning the title and the Northmor Golden Knights as this year’s runner up.

The Loudonville girls' basketball team finished out the season at 20-2 with a pair of wins last week, led by the Vermilya sisters who got it done on both ends of the court.

Corri Vermilya played some of her best basketball over the last week, posting two games of more than 40 points and dominating the glass. The senior guard has been as advertised as one of the top girls’ basketball players in Ohio, and now she is the Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

Two of the most prolific scorers in the Ohio girls’ basketball went head-to-head on Feb. 5 and the game was as advertised with Corri Vermilya dropping 40 points to top DC Lanier's 26 points in a 64-58 Loudonville (17-1, 4-0) win over Port Clinton (13-7, 5-3).

The Loudonville Redbirds (15-1, 4-0) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a big 56-30 win over a talented Colonel Crawford squad (16-2, 9-1) on Jan. 31, led by terrific defense and three players into double digits in scoring.

The Loudonville girls’ basketball team (15-1, 4-0) had a 13 day break between games, and there was a bit of rust showing for the Redbirds, who lost 67-51 to Warrensville Heights for their first defeat of the season.

Loudonville (5-9, 2-3) hosted Mid-Buckeye Athletic Conference rival St. Peter’s (1-10, 0-5) on Jan. 12, and it was a huge night for Judah Layton and Dilan Wade who accounted for 61 combined points in a 77-44 win.

Loudonville’s own Corri Vermilya has been named as one of the 724 high school basketball players across the nation nominated to play in the McDonald’s All American Games in Houston on April 2.

The Cardington-Lincoln boys’ basketball team had four players in double figures in a 77-43 rout of Loudonville on Jan. 8.

On Jan. 6 the Loudonville girls’ basketball team continued their string of lopsided victories with an 85-21 win over Crestline, putting them at 13-0 and 4-0 in conference play. The Redbirds have now secured their eighth straight Mid-Buckeye Conference title.

The Loudonville Redbirds (12-0, 3-0) continues to play top tier basketball, and on Jan. 3 they beat Clear Fork (9-3, 5-1) 64-40 in what was a huge test in a home non-conference matchup.

Corri Vermilya’s accolades just keep pouring in, and in a 32 point effort in a Loudonville win over Clear Fork on Jan. 2, she became the newest member of the ultra-exclusive 2,000 career point club.

The Loudonville Redbirds (11-0, 3-0) are 11-0 after a convincing 66-35 win over a tough Cardington-Lincoln squad, with Corri Vermilya recording a double-double to lead the scoring and rebounding.

After losing four straight games and five of the first six games of the season, the Loudonville boys’ basketball team found the winning column in a 55-43 win over New London (0-8, 0-4) on Dec. 27.

The Vermilyas were at it again for the Loudonville Redbirds, combining for 48 points to lead the way in a 75-45 road win over Alliance (3-8, 2-3) on Dec. 23 to stay undefeated at 9-0 and 3-0 in conference play.
