Corri Vermilya’s accolades just keep pouring in, and in a 32 point effort in a Loudonville win over Clear Fork on Jan. 2, she became the newest member of the ultra-exclusive 2,000 career point club.

Loudonville Coach Tyler Bates is proud of Vermilya’s accomplishments and said she has been a top player since she laid foot on the floor for the Redbirds.

“Since Corri's first game at the high school level, where she scored 25 points on 11-for-14 shooting in her first Varsity game at Lexington against the (at the time) defending Ohio Cardinal Conference champions - Corri has been the model of toughness and consistency,” Bates said.

Vermilya is the only active player girls’ basketball player in the state of Ohio to hit the milestone, and now sits at 2,006 points. She reached the plateau in a 64-40 victory over the Colts. This is the fifth time this season she has reached 30 points, although some games she sat most of the tail ends as they were in blowouts. She had 34 points against Northmor, 32 points against Ashland and Clear Fork, 31 points against South Central and 30 points against Lexington.

The highest point total in Vermilya’s career came last year with a 59 point performance against Mansfield Senior. That season she also had 44 points against Fredericktown, 41 points against Mansfield Christian, 33 points against Crestview and 32 points against Akron Ellet.

Vermilya also hit the 40 point mark twice her sophomore year against Johnstown and Columbia.

Vermilya is averaging 23.2 points per game (25.7 ppg in wins and 21 ppg in losses) in her four years on varsity. She has a 24.1 ppg league game average and 17.8 ppg in OHSAA tournament games. Against top teams she has been phenomenal. She averages 23.7 ppg against league champions, 27.6 ppg against teams with 20 or more wins, and 23.6 ppg against teams with 15 or more wins.

Throughout her career she has been involved in 19 running clock games where points were scarce by both teams in the second half.

Vermilya is also a top rebounder in the state, and she recently reached the 1,000 rebound mark. She is the first Redbird to hit this milestone.

On the season, Vermilya is averaging 27.9 ppg, 11.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 8.3 steals and 0.8 blocks.

“Corri has developed a deep toolbox offensively, but what makes her special is her ability to play so hard night in and night out, while also maintaining a cerebral approach that you don't see much in high school,” said Coach Bates. “Obviously 2,000 points is an incredible milestone. It means a lot to our program, but what is so cool is that what means the most to Corri is that we won the game against a good team on the road.”

Vermilya is signed to play basketball at Ashland University next season, but this year she’s on a mission with the Redbirds. Currently her squad is at 12-0.

“It's been great to see Corri and the rest of her teammates stay humble and hungry as we have worked through this season,” said Coach Bates. “She is a great role model in the sense that she is very coachable, works hard and is always trying to get better.”

Congratulations to Corri Vermilya on the huge achievement. Good luck the rest of the way!
