The Loudonville Redbirds (11-0, 3-0) are 11-0 after a convincing 66-35 win over a tough Cardington-Lincoln (6-5, 3-1) squad, with Corri Vermilya recording a double-double to lead the scoring and rebounding.
Loudonville was up 24-13 after one quarter, led by Vermilya with 13 points. Sophia Spangler had four points and Jena Guilliams hit a three. The Redbirds outscored the Pirates 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 41-21 lead at the half. Vermilya had 19 points at halftime, while Cardington-Lincoln was led by Jill Bertke’s 10 points.
Loudonville was outscored 9-4 in the third quarter, but the Redbirds held the ball for the final 4:30 of the quarter. They finished with a 21-5 advantage to secure the big win over a solid KMAC opponent.
Vermilya put up a double-double line of 26 points and 12 boards. She also had six steals, four assists and two blocks.
Mya Vermilya had 15 points and four assists in the win. Sophia Spangler recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Elly Hensel scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.
Bertke had 14 points to lead Cardington-Lincoln. Genevieve Longsdorf scored six points, Lydia Hess had five points, Kinstin Henthorn scored three points and Magi Hallabrin and Abigail Hardwick each had two points.
“Cardington is always well-coached, with a good mix of guards and size,” said Loudonville Coach Tyler Bates, who called it an “interesting game.” “This was a good game for us and I am happy that we came away from it with a win.”
Next up is the Clear Fork Colts (9-2, 5-1), who are second in their conference and have won back-to-back games. The Colts host the Redbirds on Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
