Danville Local Schools honored its track and field athletes on Sunday, June 28, with an awards night in the high school gym that celebrated both junior high and high school teams. The evening recognized a season filled with milestones, records, and historic achievements, underscoring the strength of the program and the promise of its future.
The high school team enjoyed one of its most successful years in recent memory. Out of 30 varsity athletes, 23 earned letters, with five receiving their third and Landon King securing his fourth. Across 13 regular-season meets, the boys and girls combined for numerous personal records, meet records, and five new school records.
The girls’ team posted 10 top‑three finishes, including third at districts, while the boys earned four top‑three placements. At the KMAC meet, standout performances included Aiden Mickley’s All‑KMAC honors in the 200 meters and Kelsey Hackman’s sweep of four events for the third straight year. Hackman, Brookelynn Carter and Owen Gronberg went on to claim district titles, with Carter and Hackman later earning All‑Ohio honors at the state meet—the first in Danville history. Hackman placed fourth in the long jump, while Carter finished third in the shot put, cementing their names in school history.
The junior high program was also recognized for its strong season. Twenty‑one athletes competed, breaking seven school records. The girls won two meets, including the Lucas Invitational, and consistently placed near the top. At the KMAC meet in Loudonville, relay teams shined, with the 4x100 and 4x200 squads finishing as runners‑up. Individual highlights included Easton Looney’s runner‑up discus throw, Colton Sampson’s third place in long jump, and Ella Uhler’s podium finishes in discus and long jump. Anniston Thomas impressed with a new school record in the 400 meters, while relay contributors like Hailey Elliott, Violet Lyons, Presley Smith, and Ali Lannoy helped secure multiple top‑three finishes.
With only two seniors graduating, the program’s future looks bright. The awards night not only honored the athletes’ accomplishments but also celebrated the community’s support for a program that continues to build momentum and pride. For both junior high and high school athletes, the evening served as a fitting tribute to a season defined by resilience, achievement, and growth.
