Grant Bentley had a terrific regular season and he has brought that type of play into the postseason tournament, as he recently led the Northmor Golden Knights to a Sectional title with a 34 point showing. His top tier scoring and ability to control the glass has made him the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week.

Last week, Bentley was the top player for the No. 3 Golden Knights in a 79-41 win over No. 19 Madison Christian in the Sectional Finals. Bentley put up 34 points on the day, and was especially huge in the third quarter where he had 23 of the team’s 31 points.

Bentley shot 11-for-23 and was 4-for-10 from beyond the arc. He also went 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Bentley was a force on the glass, grabbing seven defensive boards and two offensive rebounds. He also came away with six steals and had four deflections. Bentley also managed to dish out an assist in the win. The team was as effective as it gets when he was on the floor over his 27 minutes, posting a +34.

Bentley, who was the KMAC Player of the Year and first team All-KMAC, has played in 22 games this season, averaging 19.9 points per game. He led the KMAC in scoring in the regular season, and his numbers have only gotten better in the tournament. Bentley is second on the team in rebounds at 5.2 per game, and also averages 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks.

Bentley has been hot all season for Northmor and has consistently been their number one guy when it comes to scoring. He won a Co-Athlete of the Week and an Athlete of the Week award already prior to this award. His play has been integral in the success of Northmor this year, as they won the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference title and are making a push into the playoffs.

Northmor moves onto the District Semifinals this week against No. 4 Patriot Preparatory. Good luck to Grant and the Golden Knights the rest of the way!
