Following last week’s games and entering Week 7 of the 2022 high school football schedule, the Ohio High School Athletic Association released its official weekly football computer ratings Tuesday, and seven local school made the Top-20.

Fredericktown 22, Northmor 15. A defensive squeaker yielded only a safety in the first half and a flurry at the end of the game made it close, as Fredericktown (4-2, 2-1) faced Northmor (4-2, 1-2) on Friday. The Feddies held only a 2-0 advantage at halftime, before Fredericktown outscored Northmor by five points in the second half to secure a 22-15 victory.

The Northmor Golden Knights were 10-4 in KMAC play behind Highland and Cardington-Lincoln, and went 19-7 overall, and the volleyball squad looks to build off a season where they ended with three tournament wins before losing a tight five set loss to Newark Catholic.

EK’s Streby wins Northmor Cross-Country Invite, Knights, Lady Freddies win team competition. At the Northmor Cross County Invite, August 22, Nathan Streby of East Knox won with a time of 17:02.38, more than 13 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Ryan Lehman of Northmor, at 17:15.53

The Mount Vernon News sports department’s 31st ATHLETE OF THE WEEK nominations continues the established procedure of spotlighting student-athletes’ skills and performances on the fields and courts of action. Based on performances, we ask ADs, coaches and the community to nominate one boy and one girl from their athletic programs to compete against other schools’ nominations. This week we have two diamond stars who are run-production RBI machines for their school teams.

Golden Knights take to the road, upset Bulldogs, 52-46. On the road at Crestline on Feb. 2, Northmor took a first-quarter lead, and held on against a fourth quarter rally to defeat the host Bulldogs 52-46. The win evened the Golden Knights’ record at 9-9 (5-6 in KMAC), while the favored Bulldogs fell to 13-7 and 5-3 in Mid-Buckeye play.

Despite huge game by Payne, Trojans beat Danville by 23. Spencer Payne had a career night for Danville, but it wasn’t enough for the Blue Devils to derail undefeated (in KMAC) Centerburg, Monday night. The Trojans countered with six players in double figures to dominate the Devils for a, 88-65 victory, Jan. 18. Centerburg improved to 12-1 on the season and 8-0 in KMAC and Danville fell to 4-10 and 2-8 in KMAC)
