Northmor Golden Knights took on a tough Russia squad in the Regional Semifinals of the Division IV baseball tournament, and while Drew Hammond had a solid day at the dish, they fell 6-2 to end their season at 23-8.

The No. 1 Northmor Golden Knights are District champions and move onto the Region 16 tournament after beating No. 2 Fairfield Christian Academy 9-3 on May 22 in the Division III Central 1 District Finals.

The No. 1 Northmor Golden Knights have relied on top tier pitching in the postseason, knocking off No. 12 Madison Christian 1-0 in the Sectional Finals, and beating No. 4 Mechanicsburg 2-1 in the District Semifinals of the Division IV Central 1 tournament.

These former Mount Vernon News area high school standouts will be in action in the week starting Mon May 13.

The No. 8 Northmor Golden Knights are sectional champions after beating No. 10 Grove City Christian 8-1, led by Mahaila Strobel, who knocked in two runs and had a pair of doubles.

The Northmor Golden Knights went up early and were able to hold off the Centerburg Trojans in a 7-4 win on May 1, where Cole Cuffman tripled and drove in two runs to lead the charge.

These former Mount Vernon News area high school standouts will be in action in the week starting Mon April 29.

Maddie Simpson doubled and recorded three hits to lead the Northmor softball team to a 9-6 win over Ridgedale on April 20 to end last week, and this week she continued her excellent play with a pair of homers in a 14-1 win over Fredericktown.

Northmor avenged their previous loss to Fredericktown in an 8-0 win on April 22, with Trevor Brubaker spinning a gem against the Freddies.

After starting last week with back-to-back losses to Cardington-Lincoln, Northmor bounced back with a 14-7 win over Pleasant on April 13, with Maddie Simpson just a homer shy of the cycle.

Bryar Householder was a force to be reckoned with on the mound for East Knox, going eight innings of near perfect baseball in an extra-inning 1-0 shutout over Northmor.

Northmor improved to 7-1 on the season with the Golden Knights finishing out last week with a pair of conference wins over Cardington-Lincoln.

Drew Hammond led the Northmor Golden Knights to four straight wins last week, and has helped the team to a 6-0 start this year. His dominance on the mound and at the plate both earned him the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week Award.

Loudonville won both games of a double-header on April 6, with the Redbirds fueled by top tier pitching by Natalee Buzzard and Alesha Felix.

Northmor had a perfect week on the baseball diamond, winning four games with a great display of pitching, defense and offense to make it a 6-0 start.

The Northmor Golden Knights improved to 4-0 on the young season, beating KMAC rival Mount Gilead in a pair of tightly contested battles including one that ended with a walk-off RBI single by Garrett Harvey.

The Northmor softball team kicked off their season this past week, going 2-2 led by a a solid week at the plate by Mahaila Strobel, who had two homers and seven RBIs to pace the offense.

The Northmor baseball team went 21-7 and had a district finals appearance in the Division IV playoffs last season, and this year seniors Grant Bentley and Drew Hammond lead a solid core of Golden Knights in hopes of winning a conference title and making a deep playoff run.

The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference announced their All-Conference wrestling team, led by Christopher Marshall of Centerburg as Wrestler of the Year and Blake Elliott of East Knox as Wrestler of the Tournament.

Local boys’ basketball teams were well represented with this year’s All-District 11 selections, notably in Division III led by Fredericktown with two first teamers, a second team, an honorable mention and Derek Dibling as the District 11 Division III Coach of the Year.
