Lexington's Weaver lead local athletes at state track and field meets

Local high schools were well represented at the track and field state finals over the weekend, with six athletes competing in their respective division’s meet.

Divison I

Marissa Rutter of the Mount Vernon track and field team competed in the 100 meter hurdles at the Division I state meet on June 1, and the senior Yellow Jacket made it to the finals and took eighth.

Rutter was fourth in the preliminary race, going for fourth out of 18 runners with a time of 14.70 Her time had her clearly making the cut for the finals, but she dropped to 16.32 in the to take eighth place. 

Division II

Elyana Weaver of Lexington was third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.23. Emily Thomas, also of Lexington, placed eighth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.02.

Kyle Maltarich of West Holmes was eighth in the high jump with a leap of six feet, four inches.

Division III

Cowin Becker of Northmor was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, four inches.

Tess Shultz of Loudonville was fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:00.82. She also ran the 3,200 meters, placing fifth with a time of 10:58.60.

Will Baker of Mount Gilead took fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time or 4:16.75. Fellow Indian Parker Bartlett took seventh in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:28.86.
