Blood, Sweat and Turf: Jackets Football unveils revamped practice field | MV Yellow Jacket Gridiron Club/FB

A vision five months in the making has become a reality for Mount Vernon High School's football program, thanks to a collaborative effort by athletic boosters, community donors, and the team itself.

According to the Mount Vernon Football staff, what was once an uneven grassy area filled with holes between the baseball and softball fields is now a dedicated varsity practice field designed with player safety as its primary goal. The transformation involved the delivery and installation of more than 200 tons of topsoil. This five-month operation required significant effort from players and staff, who completed the project without outside contractors.

"Our previous practice fields had serious obstacles when it came to speed and safety," said Head Coach Mark Weber. "We knew we had to make a change not just for today’s team, but for the future of Fighting Jackets football."

The project was fully funded by the school's athletic boosters and supported by several contributors who came together to bring this effort to life. Mount Vernon Football expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the new practice field possible—a space that now reflects the pride, commitment, and resilience of the Jackets community.
