The legacy of Mount Vernon Football, established in 1898, is experiencing a resurgence. After years of working quietly behind the scenes, the program is reemerging as a central part of the community's identity, reclaiming its title as "Football Town U.S.A."
According to the program, Mount Vernon is rebuilding its football tradition on principles of hard work and resilience. The team aims to restore football as a source of community pride, with each practice and game contributing to a revival that will resonate through the city for years.
The upcoming chapter begins Monday with the start of fall camp. A total of 256 players across various levels will don the black and gold uniforms. From youth leagues to varsity teams, the Fighting Jackets are determined to make their mark.
The Fighting Jackets Youth Program includes 87 flag football players, 23 junior tackle players (grades 3–4), and 39 varsity tackle players (grades 5–6). Middle school teams feature 25 seventh-graders and 25 eighth-graders. At the high school level, 57 athletes are preparing to uphold the team's legacy with determination.
"This is more than a team," said the program. "We guard your kids like our own and mold them into champions." The program expressed that their foundation is strong and that Jacket pride is only beginning to grow.
