The Ohio Power Siting Board has given the green light for the construction of a 120-megawatt natural gas-fired electric generation facility in New Albany and Licking County. The approval was granted on July 24.

According to a news release, the PowerConnex 1 Generation Project will operate behind the meter, serving the electric load of an adjacent data center without being physically connected to the electric power grid.

The generation facility will be constructed and operated by PowerConneX New Albany, LLC. Its affiliate, EdgeConneX Inc., will utilize the generated electric power. EdgeConneX owns a 49-acre industrial property campus within the New Albany Business Park and is currently constructing a data center on this campus. The 8-acre generation facility will also be located here. National Gas and Oil Cooperative, a local gas distribution company, will supply natural gas for the facility.

Additional information about the PowerConnex 1 Generation Project, including area maps, is available in the record for case number 25-0090-EL-BLN. An online mapping tool illustrates the location of this project as well as other approved and pending natural gas-fired generation projects in Ohio.
