Northmor shuts out Freddies in KMAC baseball action

Northmor avenged their previous loss to Fredericktown in an 8-0 win on April 22, with Trevor Brubaker spinning a gem against the Freddies.

Brubaker pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out six. Grant Bentley came in the game for an inning of relief, giving up one hit and striking out six batters.

Bryce Cooper drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning, and the Golden Knights made it 2-0 in the second inning when Cole Cuffman hit an RBI single with two outs. In the bottom of the third inning, the Golden Knights put two more runs on the board. Nick Armrose grounded out to shortstop, but a run scored on the play. Caiden Martinez followed with an RBI single in the next at bat to put Northmor up 4-0.

Drew Hammond led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single, and he scored on a Garrett Harvey triple on the next at bat. Brubaker continued the scoring with an RBI single to put the lead at 6-0.

After Martinez reached on an error and Jack Bowdre walked, Bentley drove in a run on a single to right in the fifth inning. Northmor tacked on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Bowdre drilled an RBI double to right field.

Cuffman was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to lead Northmor. Harvey also had a nice day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Bowdre was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Brubaker, Cooper, Armrose and Martinez all had RBIs in the win.

Fredericktown had five singles in the game by Korbin McGowan, Carter Mull, Lane Warner, Kaine Sheriff and Vince Lavin.

McGowan wound up with the loss, going two and two-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs and five walks, while striking out a pair of batters.

Northmor is now 11-2 on the season and improved to 6-2 in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference with the win. Fredericktown is 5-8 overall with all their wins in conference play. They are now 5-4 in the KMAC.
