Drew Hammond of the Northmor Golden Knights was on top of his game on the mound and at the plate last week, earning the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week Award. | Coach Buck Workmam

Drew Hammond led the Northmor Golden Knights to four straight wins last week, and has helped the team to a 6-0 start this year. His dominance on the mound and at the plate both earned him the Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week Award.

The entire Golden Knight offense has been clicking to start the season, as the team has six players batting over .300. Hammond is batting .450.

On April 3 against Northmor he pitched a complete game, allowing only two hit, two walks and one earned run, while striking out 12 batters to get the win over Mount Gilead. He also helped himself on offense with a solo homer.

On April 6, the Golden Knights played the first game of a double-header against Loudonville. Hammond went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs to help lead the Golden Knights to a 10-0 shutout win. In the second game, Northmor shut out the Redbirds 5-0. Hammond had a terrific day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Congratulations to Drew Hammond on a great all-around week of baseball, and good luck the rest of the way!
