The Fredericktown girls’ basketball (5-5, 2-3) team took care of KMAC rival Northmor (3-9, 0-6) with ease, with Ella Bouton leading the Freddies to a 42-24 win over the the Golden Knights.
It was a tight first quarter and the Freddies had a 4-2 lead when Northmor’s Madison Simpson grabbed a loose ball for a steal. They couldn’t score on the possession, and the Freddies threatened to extend the lead, but Ryann Brinkman blocked a jump shot to keep it a two point game. The Freddies tacked on three more points and were looking to make it a seven point game, but Brinkman swooped in for a steal. Shortly after, Maizy Brinkman grabbed a steal and scored on a fast break to make it 7-4. Northmor’s Claire Tackett stole the ball and scored on another fast break to cut the lead to one. The quarter finished with the Freddies up 10-8.
In the second quarter Fredericktown jumped out to a 19-12 lead, but Brinkman made a sweet block at the basket to keep the Golden Knights within reach. But by the end of the quarter, Fredericktown had a 15-8 scoring advantage and were up 25-16.
The Freddies outscored Northmor 12-4 in the third quarter and 5-4 in the fourth to take the win.
Bouton was 6-for-12 with 16 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds and three assists, while being a huge part of the defense with five steals and a pair of blocks.
Cally Carpenter, who is in a battle for the KMAC scoring title, had 13 points, six boards, six assists and two steals.
Mya Bryant recorded six points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Emily Feeney and Kit Bellman each had two points. Bellman also had four rebounds and two steals. Gracie Lester grabbed a pair of defensive boards and dished out an assist. Kennedy Algire had two points, four rebounds, a block and a steal. Izabella Richie grabbed a defensive rebound for the Freddies in the win.
Northmor was led by Simpson’s eight points, eight rebounds and three steals. Alexis See scored seven points and grabbed three defensive rebounds. Maizy Brinkman had four points, one rebound and one steal. Brinkman had two points, four rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Tackett scored two points to go with two assists, three steals, one block and one rebound. Reagan See had two rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Shelby Cooper grabbed five boards, and also recorded a steal and a block.
Fredericktown shot 30% and 24% from three, while Northmor only shot 17% and 7% from deep. The Freddies led 36-28 in rebounds, 10-3 in assists and 6-5 in blocks. Northmor had a 15-12 steal advantage.
