Northmor’s Grant Bentley and Jax Wenger were firing on all cylinders in a 64-46 win over Fredericktown (5-5, 3-2) on Jan. 13, combining for 43 points to lead the charge.

“Overall another great team win as we get a long week to prepare for a very good Centerburg team who just knocked off Cardington who was first in the KMAC going into Saturday,” Northmor Coach Blade Tackett said.

Northmor (9-4, 5-1) went up 12-7 in the first quarter, led by AJ Bower’s five points. They widened the gap in the second quarter, outscoring the Freddies 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 30-15 lead at the half. Wenger and Bower led the way with eight points in the first half.

In the third quarter Bentley and Wenger each had six points, but Gavin Toombs went off for nine points for the Freddies to outscore the Golden Knights 18-14. Northmor finished strong with a 20-13 advantage, with Bentley hitting a pair of threes and scoring 10 points to lead the charge down the stretch.

Bentley and Wenger had a great all-around game on both sides of the ball. Bentley led with 23 points, five boards, four assists and four steals.

“Grant continues to be a consistent scorer on offense,” Northmor Coach Blade Tackett said. “He’s a very efficient player right now shooting nearly 60 percent from two, 40% from three, and 80 percent from the line.”

Wenger had 20 points, five rebounds, six assists, five steals and a block. Hunter Fulk hit double figures with 10 points, and also had seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. Bower scored eight points, grabbed a rebound and tallied two assists.

“Hunter Fulk has also been a steady force at the line as well, shooting 9-for-11 at Danville last week and 8-for-10 on Saturday versus Fredericktown,” Coach Tackett said. “He also continues to be among the league leaders in steals. Jax Wenger is getting his flow back and playing efficient basketball as well.”

Toombs led the Freddies with 23 points including two threes. Carson Rinehart had nine points and Blake Sipes scored eight points.

“Great team win versus a very talented Fredericktown,” Tackett said. “We did what we could to slow down Gavin Tombs and although he ended with a great game, I think we were able to make him work for everything. We got a great defensive effort from Bryson Keirns in the second quarter limiting his shots and holding the Freddies to only 15 at half.”
