Grant Bentley | Coach Blade Tackett

Grant Bentley has been a force for the Northmor boys’ basketball team this season, leading the team to a 10-4 overall record and 6-1 in KMAC, good for first place. He has been a consistent scorer for the Golden Knights and turns it on when most needed, and for that reason he is the Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

Bentley is coming off a 21 point showing 63-52 home conference win over KMAC rival Centerburg where he helped the team comeback for the huge win. After being down 16-8 after one quarter, Northmor clawed its way back in the game each quarter. Northmor had a 23-11 fourth quarter to battle and secure what ended up being an 11 point win.

As always, Bentley was efficient going 8-for-15 as the team’s main scoring option. He also went 2-for-4 from deep, leading the Golden Knights in threes. Bentley grabbed two offensive rebounds, while tallying three assists and a steal.

The previous Saturday he led the charge in a big 64-46 win over Fredericktown where he led the way with 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Coach Blade Tackett noted that he is shooting nearly 60% from two, 40% from three and also 80% from the charity stripe. These numbers are nothing to scoff at, as they show how meaningful Bentley has been to this big run at the KMAC title.

This was the third straight win for Northmor, who are cruising through a tough part of the schedule as the regular season is close to ending. They have outscored opponents 839-702 this year, and much of that is due to the strong play by Bentley night in and night out.

Congratulations to Grant Bentley and good luck this week!
