The No. 4 Northmor football team (10-3, 6-1) had a terrific season, but No. 1 Garaway (13-0, 5-0) has been unstoppable and it continued on Friday night in a 42-7 rout of the Golden Knights, where they scored all their points in the first half. Garaway goes on to the regional finals against No. 2 West Jefferson in the Division VI, Region 23 tournament.
The Pirates continued their quest for an undefeated season, and they were hot right out of the gate. Jackson Reifenschneider scored on a one-yard touchdown run at the beginning of the first quarter, and then added another touchdown off a pick-six of an AJ Bower pass. Pirate QB Brady Geibel took it in himself for a score and it was quickly a 21-0 game.
Geibel scored a one-yard run at the 8:30 mark in the second quarter, and then threw touchdown passes to Jenson Garber of 47 yards and a 50-yarder to Dillon Soehnlen with about a minute to go in the half. At the end of the first half, Northmor was threatening to score. Carson Campbell went off for a 40-yard run and then another nice 10-yarder on a good cutback. This was the best the Golden Knights had played all night, but it was all for naught when Bower threw for the end zone and Lucas Swartzentruber came away with a pick in the end zone, securing a 42-0 lead at halftime for Garaway.
The Golden Knights got on the board in the fourth quarter on an AJ Bower touchdown pass to Jax Wenger for 25 yards.
Geibel was 7-for-8 for 201 yards with two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown to lead Garaway to the win. They had 328 total yards on offense. On defense they were led by Payton Keller, who had two picks and a sack. Swartzentruber, Garber and Reifenschneider also had interceptions. The defense also forced a fumble.
It was a tough night for Bower and the Northmor offense. He was 11-for-21 for 171 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions that all came in the first half. Wenger caught five passes for 90 yards and Bo Landin had six catches for 81 yards.
Campbell ran for 104 yards on 20 carries to pace the running game. The Golden Knights had 257 yards of offense.
