Lexington High School was well represented at this year’s Ohio Cardinal Conference cross country meet, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams winning conference titles.

Mansfield Senior (7-2, 6-0) won its sixth straight game with a 31-0 victory over Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC) rival Mount Vernon to clinch a share of the conference title for the first time in six years. This was the first shutout of the season for the Tygers.

The Mount Vernon volleyball team (16-6, 11-3) had its final game of the regular season against Olentangy Berlin on Monday, and while it was a non-conference matchup against a team with a lower record, the Yellow Jackets fell 3-1 to the Bears.

Mount Vernon hosts Mansfield Senior in OCC football action on Friday night.

Kendall Ray Hall, 82, of Euless, Texas, died on August 3, 2023, after kidney failure. He was born on April 12, 1941, in Sparta, Ohio, the son of Hoy and Ruth Hall.

The Mount Vernon volleyball team has had a solid season with a 16-5 record and 11-3 in Ohio Cardinal Conference play, good for second. Much of this success is due to the terrific play by senior setter Tori Burdette, and for that reason she is the Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

Last week the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets (16-5, 11-3) won a pair of conference matches, with sweeps against New Philadelphia at home and Madison Comprehensive on the road.

Madison Comprehensive (1-7, 1-4) made easy work of Mount Vernon (2-6, 1-4) on the gridiron on Friday, walking away with a 38-0 win for their first win of the season in convincing fashion.

Centerburg (14-2, 7-1) and Mount Vernon (13-4, 8-2) squared off in what was a matchup between two of the top teams in their respective conferences fighting for the top spot, and the Trojans rose to the occasion in a big 3-1 win over the Yellow Jackets fueled by a big night by senior outside hitter Stella Weisbrod.

New Philadelphia's Etnie Richardson ran 27 times for 189 yards and two touchdowns and the Quakers' defense overwhelmed the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets on Friday, 35-10 in New Philadelphia.

Junior Kaitlyn Thompson had ten kills and senior Emma Dean had seven kills, six aces and two blocks to lead the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets over the Ashland Arrows, three sets to zero, on Tues. Sept. 19.

Senior Jurnie Gleason had five kills and three aces and senior Tori Burdette had two aces, five digs and 17 assists to lead the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets over the winless Mansfield Senior Tygers in straight sets.

In a closely contested match, the Yellow Jacket tennis team faced Westerville North, ending with a 2-3 loss.

Sophomore Audrey Stuller had 23 digs and Senior Tori Burdette had two aces, 28 assists, two blocks and 14 digs to lead the Mount Vernon over the New Albany Eagles, three sets to one.

Mount Vernon's Logan Eggert placed third of 183 entrants in the Varsity Division 1 5,000 meter boys' high school finals at Saturday's Newark Invitational.
