Rutter wins both hurdles races for Mount Vernon track and field

Marissa Rutter had a huge day for the Mount Vernon girls’ track and field team at the Newark Invitational on March 30, winning the 300 meter hurdles with a personal record and barely missing her PR in the 100 meter hurdles.

"Marissa's first meet was a huge success," said Coach Kathy Tayer. "She won both hurdle races; one being with a PR. Her split in the 4x400 meter relay was also the strongest start to the season that she's had in her career. I can't wait to see how she progresses over the next couple of months. 

Girls track and field 

Mount Vernon placed sixth in the Newark Invitational with a score of 64 points on March 30. Fairfield Union took first with 136 points in the meet.

100 meters: Amaris Middleton was sixth with a time of 13.42. Nadia Nougi placed eighth, clocking in at 13.57.

200 meters:  Nougi was seventh with a time of 28.21.

400 meters: Sydney Statler was 16th with a time of 1:13.73 and Autumn Tenney placed 18th with a time of 1:15.90.

800 meters: Addison Barber was 11th with a time of 2:47.38.

1600 meters: Lucy Rush took third place with a time of 5:35.92. Hannah Hofferberth placed 10th with a time of 5:52.06.

3200 meters: Ainsley Bonaudi was 10th with a time of 13:01.52.

100 meter hurdles: Marissa Rutter took the gold with a time of 15.59.

300 meter hurdles: Marissa Rutter was first with a time of 47.76. Zoey Morrison placed 12th with a time of 55.96.

4x100 meters: Mount Vernon won the silver with a time of 52.39. The team included Rutter, Nougi, Middleton and Savannah Rose.

4x200 meters: Mount Vernon placed seventh with a time of 1:54.67. The team included Sydney Statler, Morrison, Rose and Middleton.

4x400 meters: Mount Vernon had a time of 4:28.68, good for fifth. The team included Rose, Ava Burson, Nougi and Rutter.

4x800 meters: Mount Vernon had a time of 10:57.73 for fourth place. The team included Ainsley Bonaudi, Burson, Addison Barber and Megan Packard.

Shot put: Grace Hauke was eighth with a toss of 27 feet, 8.25 inches. Madeline Springer also had a , with a throw of 25 feet, 6.5 inches for 16th place.

Discus: Madeline Springer placed seventh with a throw of 81 feet, eight inches. Hauke was eighth with a  throw of 78 feet, one inch.

High jump: Kjadiah Ndow was 12th with four feet, four inches. Elizabeth Lebold was 15th with a height of four feet, a .

Pole vault: Savannah Rose was sixth with a  of seven feet.

Long jump: Taylor Couch placed fifth with a  distance of 14 feet. Bailey Thayer was 10th with a distance of 13 feet.

"Marissa competed in the 100 hurdles, 4x100m relay, 300 hurdles, and the 4x400m relay,” said Coach Tayer. “She won both of the hurdle races, the 4x200m relay team was second place, and the 4x400m relay was 5th place overall. She earned 23 points for the team. Also, her 300m hurdle time was a . She ran a 47.76. Her 100 hurdles time of 15.59 was only .17 off of her PR that she ran in the regional track meet last season.”

Boys track and field:

The boys’ track and field team took fifth place at the Newark Invitational with 56.5 points. Lincoln was first with 123.5 points.

100 meters: Mason Richard placed fourth with a time of 11.72. Peyton Meyer was 23rd with a time of 13.01.

200 meters: Richards was seventh with a time of 23.82 and Meyer was 18th with a time of 25.94.

400 meters Cole Wilson took fifth with a time of 54.49. Kalman Kanuckel was 15th with a time of 57.64.

800 meters: Landon Rush was 13th with a time of 2:13.41 and Joey Butts was 17th with a time of 2:32.62.

1600 meters: Logan Eggert was seventh with a time of 4:45.16. Zane Barber placed 10th with a time of 4:50.83.

3200 meters: Gavin Andrews was 12th with a time of 12:00.15.

110 meter hurdles: Kanuckel was ninth with a time of 18.83 and Ethan Conant was 10th with a time of 18.88.

300 meter hurdles: Hunter Looney was third with a time of 43.34 and Brady Wiles was sixth with a time of 44.58.

4x100 meters: Mount Vernon placed fifth with a time of 45.51. The team consisted of Looney, Darrin Monahan, Ayden Kennedy and Richards.

4x200 meters: Mount Vernon was third with a time of 1:35.36. The team included Looney, Cole Wilson, Ayden Kennedy and Richards.

4x400 meters: Mount Vernon was third with a time of 3:36.15. The team included Wiles, Barber, Cole Wilson and Eggert.

4x800 meters: Mount Vernon was 10th with a time of 9:37.61. It included Rush, Andrews, Joey Butts and Luke Hubbard.

Shot put: Dakota Wagoner was sixth with a distance of 40 feet, 4.25 inches. Colin Hoffman was 20th with a toss of 33 feet, 1.5 inches.

Discus: Luke Mullins was second with a toss of 135 feet, three inches. Dakota Wagoner was 17th with a toss of 89 feet, three inches.

High jump: Brady Wiles was sixth with a leap of five feet, six inches. Tyree Skelton was 10th at five feet, four inches.

Pole vault: Ethan Conant was ninth with a height of eight feet.

Long jump: Sami Lacksonen was fifth with a distance of 18 feet, 10 inches. Wiles was eighth at t, 10.5 inches.

"Our first invitational of the season was cancelled due to weather, so the Newark meet was a "first look" at part of the team," Tayer said. "The boys finished in fifth place and the girls finished sixth. We were missing a few key athletes due to Spring Break travels and injuries. Overall, I was happy with how we did and with the fact that some athletes already started the season off with personal records. There were seven personal records set on the girls' side and six for the boys. There were several freshmen on the women's side that are showing a strong start to the season. I am very excited about their future."
