Mount Vernon’s bats came alive from the very first inning and never slowed, powering the Yellow Jackets to an emphatic 18–1 victory over Teays Valley in the Division II district finals of the 2026 OHSAA Softball State Championships.
Played May 25 at Teays Valley High School, the win secured Mount Vernon the district championship and showcased a lineup firing on all cylinders.
From the opening inning, the Yellow Jackets set a tone that would carry through all six frames. Hailey Rudrick delivered the first blow, launching a two‑run homer to center field to give Mount Vernon an early spark. Moments later, Lexi Ringwalt punched an RBI single into the outfield, pushing the lead to 3–0 before Teays Valley had fully settled in. The Vikings briefly answered in the bottom half when Makayla Jones sent a solo home run over the left‑field fence, but that would be the only run Mount Vernon allowed.
The Yellow Jackets kept applying pressure. In the second inning, Jocelyn Scarbury doubled to help extend the lead to 6–1, giving Mount Vernon a comfortable cushion. By the fourth, the offense surged again. Gabby Beck opened the inning with a home run, and Rudrick followed with her second blast of the day, stretching the margin even further.
The sixth inning turned the game into a full‑scale rout. Mount Vernon erupted for eight runs, showcasing the depth of its lineup. Ringwalt, Layla Joyner, Rudrick and Keely Pollard all homered in the inning, each swing adding to a performance that felt more like a statement than a routine tournament win. Rudrick’s third home run of the game highlighted a five‑RBI day as the Yellow Jackets piled up 19 hits overall.
Scarbury handled business in the circle, earning the win with a steady, efficient outing. She allowed just two hits and one run across six innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. Behind her, Mount Vernon’s defense was flawless, committing no errors and turning a double play to erase a Teays Valley threat.
Mount Vernon closed the game with 18 runs on 19 hits and no errors. Teays Valley finished with one run on two hits and three errors, as the Yellow Jackets celebrated their district championship in dominant style.
