Civil Air Patrol announces June promotions for local cadets in Mt. Vernon

The Capt. Peter Chapman II Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, announced on June 18 the promotion of two local cadets for the month of June.

Cadet Airman Basic Ian Huggins has been promoted to Cadet Airman after completing the Major General John F. Curry Achievement of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. Cadet Senior Airman Lukas Yarman has been promoted to Cadet Staff Sergeant upon completion of the Wright Brothers Achievement.

The Capt. Peter Chapman II Composite Squadron meets every Monday evening at 6 PM at the Knox County Airport terminal building. The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is open to youth ages 12-18 and focuses on leadership, aerospace education, physical fitness, and character development. According to information provided by Civil Air Patrol, it was founded in 1941 and established as the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force seven years later. The organization is chartered by Congress as a nonprofit for youth development, aerospace education, and promoting general aviation. In its auxiliary role as a Total Force partner of the Air Force, Civil Air Patrol operates what it describes as the world’s largest fleet of single-engine aircraft for search and rescue, disaster relief, training, and education.
