Centerburg Elementary is helping families prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year by sharing important kindergarten registration details and back-to-school information ahead of the first day of classes on Aug. 19.

Kindergarten registration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, by appointment at Centerburg Elementary. Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 19 to enroll. Families can schedule a registration appointment by calling the school at 740-625-6488 and are encouraged to complete the required Final Forms before attending.

Parents should bring several documents to registration, including proof of address, the child's birth certificate, a physical examination record, dental records, Individualized Education Program (IEP) documentation if applicable, and custody paperwork when necessary. School officials also remind families that incoming kindergarten students should already be listed in PowerSchool before creating a Final Forms account. Families needing assistance or computer access may visit the school to complete the online forms.

The school also outlined several important dates leading up to the first day of classes. Kindergarten Open House is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. Families will have an opportunity to meet classroom teachers and participate in a scavenger hunt to introduce students to the school's special-area teachers.

To complete the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), Centerburg Elementary will use a staggered start during the first week of school. Students with last names beginning A-L will attend on Wednesday, Aug. 19, while students with last names M-Z will attend Thursday, Aug. 20. All kindergarten students will report to school together beginning Friday, Aug. 21.

Families are also encouraged to complete Final Forms as soon as possible because class assignments will only be released after the required paperwork has been submitted. Parents may contact the school office, call the school, or email the attendance office during the week of Aug. 10 for teacher assignments once their forms are complete.

The school day begins with breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by doors opening at 8:25 a.m., the warning bell at 8:28 a.m., and classes starting at 8:30 a.m. Walkers and car riders are dismissed at 3:02 p.m., with bus riders dismissed at 3:10 p.m.

School officials also reminded parents using the car line to remain patient, avoid parking or leaving their vehicles in the pickup line, stay attentive, and follow staff directions to ensure a safe and efficient dismissal process for all students.
