Mount Vernon families are invited to Ariel‑Foundation Park this weekend for the second installment of the city’s Free Family Movie Night series, featuring Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster classic Jurassic Park.
The event is set for Saturday, July 18, at the Schnormeier Event Center, 201 S. Norton Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. with food and games, followed by the movie at 8 p.m. Admission is free, with festivities lasting until 10 p.m.
City officials say the series is designed to bring neighbors together for shared entertainment under the summer sky.
“This Saturday, July 18, is our second free Family Movie Night at the Park of the summer! Grab your blankets, lawn chairs, and the whole family for a thrilling night at the Schnormeier Event Center at Ariel‑Foundation Park,” the City’s Facebook post announced.
The evening offers more than just a film.
“While you wait to see the creatures of *Jurassic Park* on the big screen, enjoy free hot dogs and popcorn with games all beginning at 6 p.m.,” the post continued.
The event announcement leaned into the film’s legendary tagline to build anticipation.
“An adventure 65 million years in the making is coming to the big screen! Grab your blankets, lawn chairs, and the whole family for a thrilling night under the stars. We are keeping the Free Family Movie Night series rolling with Steven Spielberg's ultimate dinosaur masterpiece. Hold onto your butts, because this is going to be an epic night.”
The City underscored that admission is “100% FREE” and urged residents not to miss the chance to enjoy the film in a community setting.
“Life finds a way, and so should you—make sure you don't miss it!” the release concluded.
In Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, a group of scientists is invited to preview a theme park where dinosaurs have been brought back to life through genetic engineering. When the park’s security systems fail, the visitors must fight to survive as the prehistoric predators break free.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure seating and join the pre‑movie activities. The Family Movie Night series continues through October with a lineup of five films designed to give kids, parents, and neighbors memorable evenings together.
