The Mount Vernon girls' track team took first place at the Sara Robinson Relays. | Coach Kathy Thayer

The Mount Vernon girls’ track and field team won the Sara Robinson Relays at Lakewood on April 19, and the boys’ team was the runner up, with three school records being broken in the meet.

"The athletes worked well as a team," Coach Kathy Thayer said. "There were a lot of moving parts in this invitational, but the athletes handled the short turnaround times and exchanges well. Many athletes had back-to-back events with little rest between. Kalman Kanuckel ended up last minute having to substitute in for another athlete in a race and he ended up having a PR for his split and ran back to back races."

There were medals aplenty, with the Lady Yellow Jackets winning seven golds and the boys’ team coming away with three golds.
