The Mount Vernon track and field teams fared well at the Hank Smith Invitational on April 13 at Heath High School, with both placing third out of 20 teams and Marissa Rutter pacing the way with two golds and a silver in the meet.

Girls Highlights:

Mount Vernon was third with 76.6 points, behind Fairfield Union (133) and Buckeye Valley 101.6. Marissa Rutter was the star of the day for the Yellow Jackets, placing first in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with personal records, helping the 4x400 meter relay team take a silver medal, and coming away with a bronze in the 100 meters.

Bailey Thayer also took first place in pole vault for Mount Vernon, tying with Buckeye Valley’s Gabbie Schneider at nine feet. Lucy Rush came away with a bronze in the 1600 meters, and the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay teams also won the bronze medal.

100 meters: Rutter won the bronze medal with a time of 13.57.

200 meters: Nadia Nougi was sixth with a time of 28.12.

400 meters: Ava Burson was the top Yellow Jacket with a 17th place finish, clocking in at 1:09.79.

800 meters: Megan Packard was fifth with a time of 2:36.81.

1600 meters: Lucy Rush made the podium, grabbing the bronze with a 5:36.81 finish.

3200 meters: Rush placed fifth with a time of 12:21.55.

110 meter hurdles: Rutter led the way with a PR time of 14.97 to take the gold.

300 meter hurdles: Rutter placed first a PR time of 47.08.

4x100 meters: Mount Vernon was third with a time of 53.76. The team included Sydney Statler, Nougi, Savannah Rose and Makayla Pugh.

4x200 meters: The Yellow Jackets were 11th with a time of 1:57.37. The team consisted of Cora Rickett, Statler, Charlotte Smith and Rose.

4x400 meters: Mount Vernon took the silver with a time of 4:18.22. The team included Rose, Packard, Nougi and Rutter.

4x800 meters: Mount Vernon won the bronze with a time of 10:50.18. The team included Addison Barber, Ava Burson, Hannah Hofferberth and Ainsley Bonaudi.

Shot put: Watts Haylie was 15th with a toss of 26 feet, two inches.

Discus: Grace Hauke was 11th with a distance of 83 feet, nine inches.

High jump: Elizabeth Lebold was 20th with a height of four feet.

Long jump: Taylor Couch placed eighth with a leap of 14 feet, 7.5 inches.

Pole vault: Bailey Thayer won the gold in the pole vault with a height of nine feet.

Boys results:

The Yellow Jackets had 71 points for third place, just behind runner up Licking Valley (74) and first place Fairfield Union (97).

The team had one gold medal in the meet, with the 4x400 meter relay team taking the top spot. Ethan Young had a silver in the 400 meters and Logan Eggert won silver in the 800 meters, as well. Hunter Looney came away with the bronze in the 110 meter hurdles.

100 meters: Ayden Kennedy was 24th with a time of 12.46.

200 meters: Luke Hubbard was 25th with a time of 25.20.

400 meters: Ethan Young placed second with a time of 52.78, taking the silver medal.

800 meters: Logan Eggert won the silver with a time of 2:03.69. Zane Barber narrowly missed the podium in fourth, clocking in at 2:06.84.

1600 meters: Eggert almost had another podium finish, but finished fourth with a time of 4:34.97.

3200 meters: Landon Rush was ninth with a time of 10:45.84.

110 meter hurdles: Hunter Looney won bronze with a time of 16.82.

300 meter hurdles: Looney narrowly missed a podium spot, clocking in at 43.26 for fourth place.

4x100 meters: Mount Vernon had a time of 45.67 for eighth place. The team included Sami Lacksonen, Darrin Monahan, Ayden Kennedy and Looney.

4x200 meters: Mount Vernon was fourth with a time of 1:34.44. The team consisted of Looney, Cole Wilson, Kennedy and Ethan Young.

4x400 meters: The boys 4x400 meter relay team was tops on the day, taking gold with a time of 3:31.44. The team included Wilson, Brady Wiles, Eggert and Young.

4x800 meters: Mount Vernon was 13th with a time of 10:13.39. The team included Gavin Andrews, Owen Petrie, Joey Butts and Michael Minton.

Shot put: Colin Hoffman was 29th with a time of 32 feet, five inches.

Discus: Hoffman was 20th with a time of 99 feet.

High jump: Wiles placed seventh with a height of five feet, six inches.

Pole vault: Ben Fitzpatrick was 14th with a height of nine feet.

Long jump: Lacksonen had a fourth place leap of 19 feet, four inches.
