The Mount Vernon and East Knox wrestling teams are coached by Corey Firebaugh, as the teams train together, and each team brings back quality athletes who are looking to make waves this season.

The Mount Vernon boys’ basketball team opened up the winter season in a non-conference matchup with Centerburg, and Quentin Rowland was the man of the hour putting up a quality night scoring, rebounding and playmaking for the Yellow Jackets in a 58-32 victory on Dec. 1.

The Ohio Cardinal Conference released their All-Conference selections and individual awards. The conference consists of high schools from Mount Vernon, Ashland, Lexington, Madison Comprehensive, Mansfield Senior, New Philadelphia, West Holmes and Wooster.

Once more, Dr. Dubusky enthusiastically aided Mr. Steve Farmer in conducting a hematology laboratory session at Mt. Vernon High School.

List of Mount Vernon High School 1st 9 Weeks Honor Rolls

Lucy Peterson, a senior at MVHS and the captain of the Junior Varsity soccer team, has earned the honor of representing the United States of America on the national team at the Down Syndrome Football America Cup in São Paulo, Brazil this upcoming autumn.

The No. 28 Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team (10-7-1, 4-3-1) won the first game of the Division I, Central 1- Sectional/District tournament with a 3-1 win over No. 34 Westland (7-10-1, 0-3-1) on Oct. 17, but their season ended in the second round with a 5-0 loss to No. 1 Olentangy (14-1-2) on Oct. 19.

West Holmes (8-2, 6-1) took it to the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets (2-9, 1-7) on Friday night, going up 42-0 after one quarter and never looking back in a lopsided 62-0 win to finish the regular season on a six game winning streak.

The Mount Vernon volleyball team had its best record since 2016, but on Oct. 20 the No. 12 Yellow Jackets (17-7, 11-3) were upset in the second round of the Division I Central 4 District/Sectional tournament, 3-1 by No. 31 Licking Heights.

Lexington High School was well represented at this year’s Ohio Cardinal Conference cross country meet, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams winning conference titles.

The Mount Vernon String Quartet performed with the MVHS Chorale on Tues. Oct. 10 at R. R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium, Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Mansfield Senior (7-2, 6-0) won its sixth straight game with a 31-0 victory over Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC) rival Mount Vernon to clinch a share of the conference title for the first time in six years. This was the first shutout of the season for the Tygers.

The Mount Vernon volleyball team (16-6, 11-3) had its final game of the regular season against Olentangy Berlin on Monday, and while it was a non-conference matchup against a team with a lower record, the Yellow Jackets fell 3-1 to the Bears.
