Stellar pitching fuels Rams to 6 straight wins

The Madison Comprehensive softball team blew out Columbian and then beat Mount Vernon in back-to-back conference matchups to make it six straight wins for the Rams. The wins brought them to 11-7 overall, and 4-3 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

Madison Comprehensive 10, Columbian 0

On April 22, the Columbian Tornadoes came to town and the Rams jumped out to a big first inning lead and never looked back in a 10-0 shutout.

The Rams scored five runs in the first inning, and followed with two runs in both the second and third innings. They tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning.

Layla Azmoun pitched four innings of two hit ball where she struck out 11 batters. Campbell Kiser pitched a perfect fifth inning and struck out two.

Izzy Wamsley led the 12 hit attack with a 3-for-4 day, and also had a stolen base. Ashley Markley was 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Kendyll Kershner was 3-for-3 with two runs, and Allie Shrader went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Madison Comprehensive 3, Mount Vernon 2

The Rams traveled to Mount Vernon on April 24 and Azmoun got another win in the circle, leading Madison Comprehensive to a 3-2 win.

Azmoun pitched seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out five and walking a pair.

Mount Vernon took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Jocelyn Scarberry smashed a homer to centerfield. They held that lead until the fourth inning when Kyleigh Reiter hit a homer to right for the Rams. In the sixth inning they took a 3-2 lead on a two run shot by Markley.

Markley went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs for the Rams. Libby Bekeleski was 1-for-3 with a triple.

Mount Vernon was led by Jocelyn, who homered in a 1-for-3 day with two RBIs.

Jocelyn was handed the loss, going three innings, allowing two earned runs, three hits and a walk, while striking out three.

The next day, the Azmoun out-dueled Addi in a 1-0 shutout for the Rams. 

It was scoreless until the boittom of the seventh inning when Emma Stankovich lined a single to centerfield to score Kiser for a walk-off win.

Kiser was 2-for-3 with a run, and Stankovich was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Rams. Mount Vernon was led by Hailey Rudrickwith a 2-for-3 day.

Azmoun went all seven innings, allowing only three hits and striking out five. Addi went six and one-third innings, allowing six hits and an earned run, while striking out five.
