Yellow Jackets track and field dominates with wins for boys and girls

The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets continue what has been a solid track and field season, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams taking first at the Fredericktown Invitational on April 26.

"I'm very proud of our boys' and girls' team," Coach Kathy Thayer said. "We had 14 new personal records and four season best times in our relays."

Logan Eggert was the star of the day, winning both the 1600 and 800 meters, and also on the first place, meet record breaking 4x400 meter relay team. On the girls' team, Rutter continued to be a force in the hurdles events, winning both the 100 meters and 300 meters to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Thayer said that some standouts included Brady Wiles with a leap of six feet, 2.5 inches in the high jump. This is his first season jumping and has made consistent improvements. She also added that Marissa Rutter continued her strong season, as she won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while also being on the second place 4x400 meter relay team. Both the 800 meter runners, Megan Packard and Ellie Salvucci, had their best performances of the year, as well.

Boys podium:

200 meters: Ethan Young placed third with a time of 23.79.

400 meters: Young had a time of 50.94 for second place, and Cole Wilson clocked in at 51.81 for third. Wilson took two seconds off his personal record time.

800 meters: Logan Eggert took the top spot with a time of 2:02.93.

1600 meters: Eggert had a time of 4:36.39 for first place.

110 meter hurdles: Hunter Looney was first with a time of 16.47.

300 meter hurdles: Looney took third with a time of 44.02.

4x100 meters: The relay team was second with a time of 45.72. The team included Looney, Darrin Monahan, Ayden Kennedy and Will Baker.

4x400 meters: The team won the event with a meet record time of 3:29.62, beating the former top spot by about two seconds. The team was Wilson, Brady Wiles, Eggert and Young.

Girls podium:

100 meters: Amaris Middleton was second with a time of 13.16.

200 meters: Middleton placed first with a time of 26.79.

800 meters: Megan Packard was second with a time of 2:32.16.

1600 meters: Lucy Rush was second with a time of 5:33.92.

3200 meters: Rush was on top for the Yellow Jackets, placing first with a time of 12:03.39. This was a personal record.

100 meter hurdles: Marissa Rutter was first with a time of 15.22.

300 meter hurdles: Rutter also won the 300 meter hurdles with a time fo 48.17.

4x100 meters: The Yellow Jackets won with a time of 51.07, which was a season best. The team include Rutter, Nadia Nougi, Savannah Rose and Amaris Middleton.

4x400 meters: Mount Vernon took second with a time of 4:20.65. The team included Rose, Megan Packard, Nougi and Rutter.

4x800 meters: The Yellow Jackets won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:41.21. 

Pole vault: Kennedy Howard had a height of eight feet, six inches for third place.
