The Mount Vernon boys’ track and field team placed eighth out of 14 teams in the OHSAA Central District 1, Division 1 meet last week.

Advancing athletes to the regional meet included Luke Mullins in discus, Cole Wilson in the 400 meters, Logan Eggert in the 800 meters and the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Wilson, Zane Barber, Brady Wiles and Eggert.

“Cole dropped a little over a second in his 400m time to advance to regionals. His training has really paid off,” said Coach Kathy Thayer. “Due to an injury, we had to sub Zane Barber in the 4x400m relay. He ran his fastest split on the year to help the relay team advance. Each member on that relay ran extremely well.”

She added, “Brady Wiles had a fabulous meet. He tied for sixth in high jump, sixth in the 300m hurdles, and ran a 50 split in the 4x400m relay. He had to compete three days last week and his legs were feeling the weight of the continuous competition. He pushed through and did really well. Logan Eggert ran a smart race and almost broke the school record in the 800.”

Now they just need to mentally focus on their goal(s) of either advancing or ending the season with a new personal record.
