Yellow Jackets make it 7 straight with win over Lexington

The Mount Vernon softball team improved to 18-7 on the year, and are riding a seven game winning streak after their 3-1 road win over Ohio Cardinal Conference rival Lexington on May 3.

Rylee Myers led off the game with an inside the park homer to set the tone for the Yellow Jackets. After two straight outs, Keely Pollard hit a single to right, and was driven home on a Brooklyn Dovenbarger double to right field.

It was a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the third when Quinn Patrick drilled a solo shot for Lexington to bring the Minutemen within one. 

In the top of the fifth, Carly Kennedy hit a double to centerfield and scored on a Hailey Rudrick single to secure the win.

Myers led the charge for Mount Vernon, going 2-for-4 with a solo shot. Rudrick was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Dovenbarger had a 1-for-3 day with a double and an RBI. Pollard went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Scarbury pitched seven innings, allowing an earned run, two hits and two walks, with six strikeouts.

For Lexington, Patrick had a homer and Kaylie Eichorn singled for their only two hits.

Makaree Chapman pitched seven innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs, while striking out five.

The Yellow Jackets started the week with an 8-2 win over New Albany, where Rudrick blasted three homers and drove in four runs in a 4-for-4 day. Grace Bates also hit a double in the win, and went 1-for-4.

They also beat West Holmes at home 15-2 on April 30, and 6-3 on the road on May 1. In the April 30 matchup, Rudrick hit a homer and a double with three RBIs. Kennedy hit as double and a triple, and Dovenbarger and Pollard each homered. Pollard was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Scarbury went five innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs, while walking one and striking out six.

In the May 1 win, Dovenbarger hit another homer and drove in two runs in a 1-for-3 day. Myers was 2-or-4 with a double and two runs.
