Mount Vernon's Daughriety belts pair of homers against Wooster

Mount Vernon baseball picks up their sixth straight win in pair of OCC victories over Wooster. | Mount Vernon baseball X page

Konner Daughriety showed off his power and pitching prowess against Wooster, as he led the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets to their sixth straight win to put them at an inmpressive 9-3. Wooster's two game slide put them at 5-2 after starting off the season with five straight victories.

Konner Daughriety did it all for the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets, homering twice and striking out nine batters in an 11-7 win over OCC rival Wooster on April 15.

Mount Vernon put four runs on the board in the first inning to set the tone. After Zac Clow was hit by a pitch, Daughriety blasted a shot to right for a two-run homer. Isaiah Columber then popped up, but it was mishandled and he was able to reach, while two runs came around to go up 4-0.

Wooster scored a run in the fourth inning when Ben Winge came home on a wild pitch. They scored again in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Hayden Meese.

In the fifth inning, Jonny Askew was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing Clow home for a run. Nolan Hershberger walked with the bases loaded to make it a four run lead. Columber followed with an RBI single and then Caden Thiebert had a line drive two-run single to go up 9-2.

In the sixth inning, Wooster added a run off a fielder’s choice, and then Dylan Hudson hit an RBI dingle to cut the lead to five. After a single by Henry Wilds, AJ Likowski singled to centerfield to drive in a run. Winge knocked a single of his own, and then Winge drilled a two-run single to center to make it 9-7.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Daughriety struck again with a solo shot. Hershberger also drove in a run on a single to round out the scoring.

Daughriety went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs, two hits and five walks, while striking out nine. At the plate he was 2-for-4 with two homers, three RBIs and two runs. Thiebert was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Hershberger also drove in two runs on a 1-for-3 day.

Wooster’s offense was led by Winge, who had two RBIs and went 1-for-3.

Likowski picked up the loss, going four and one-third innings allowing six runs with four earned, three hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Mount Vernon 4, Wooster 3

Wooster got on the board early, but Mount Vernon battled back to take a tight 4-3 win over the Generals on April 16.

In the first inning, Wooster’s Brady Bowen hit an RBI single. This was followed by a Sam Nielsen RBI single and Bowen scoring on a passed ball to go up 3-0.

Mount Vernon got on the board in the second inning when Thiebert singled in Askew. In the fourth inning, Hayden Higgins grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Hershberger to cut the lead to one. Clow followed with an RBI single to tie the game, and Daughriety had the eventual game winning RBI single immediately after.

Packard went all seven innings for the win, allowing five hits, three runs but one earned, while striking out four batters.

Mount Vernon had seven hits in the game, and Askew had the lone extra-base hit with a triple. Clow, Daughriety, Higgins and Thiebert had RBIs.
